Choosing the Right Lash Certification Program in Indiana: What You Need to Know

With the beauty industry booming and lash extensions in high demand, it's no surprise that many are eager to get certified and start offering this popular service. But in Indiana, it's not as simple as picking any program you find on Instagram.

Here’s the truth: not all lash certification programs are created equal.
And if you're planning to work legally in Indiana, you need to make sure you're choosing a program that is recognized by the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH).

Understanding Indiana's Lash Certification Rule

In September 2022, Indiana set a clear rule:

If you are not a licensed cosmetologist or esthetician, you must obtain a certification from an IDOH-recognized I-LASH program to legally perform lash extensions.

This rule officially went into effect on September 7, 2022.

Since then, any program that wants to legally certify students in lash extensions must apply through the Indiana Department of Health, submit documentation, and meet very specific content standards. It's a long and tedious process—I know, because I went through it myself.

To be clear: No one in Terre Haute could legally certify anyone in eyelash extensions before September of 2022. If a program only became recognized by the IDOH within the last few months of the year, I encourage you to proceed with caution. While recognition by the state is a minimum requirement, it doesn’t always reflect the depth or quality of the content being taught.

Programs rushed to meet the new regulations when the 2022 rule took effect—and unfortunately, that means some submitted low-effort or generic content just to get approved. Being recognized is only the first step. What matters just as much is who created the curriculum, how detailed it is, and whether it's actually preparing you for real-world success.

Before committing to a program, ask yourself:

  • Is the manual original or copied/pasted?

  • Is the instructor actively working in the field full time, or are they wearing too many hats?

  • Will I learn more than just the basics?

You deserve more than the bare minimum. You deserve training that’s thorough, honest, and rooted in real expertise.. So if you’re looking at programs claiming otherwise, be cautious.

What Sets My Program Apart

As a recognized program by the IDOH, I personally created all of the educational content in my certification course. I wrote the training manual from scratch and made sure every piece of information meets the state’s required guidelines.

Here's what makes my program stand out:

  • ✅ 100% IDOH-recognized

  • ✅ Original, detailed manual written by me

  • ✅ Covers all required content (and more)

  • ✅ Affordable pricing—because proper education shouldn't break the bank

  • ✅ Designed to teach precision, professionalism, and long-term success

Becoming a lash artist isn’t just about chasing fast money—it’s about building a career with integrity and skill.

Do Your Research

There are currently three recognized programs in Terre Haute. I’m not here to say one is better than another—but I do urge you to do your research:

  • Look for proof of recognition by the IDOH

  • Be wary of false claims or exaggerated advertising

  • Ask questions: What’s included in the training? Who wrote the content? Is mentorship offered afterward?

If a program is willing to mislead you in its marketing, what might they skip over in your education?
